2026 Junior Boys Merit

Darren Andrews • 24 May 2026

Sunday 24th May

The juniors delivered an outstanding afternoon of competitive bowling at Hamstead, showcasing not only their talent but also their maturity, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm for the game. Spectators from Hamstead Social were full of praise, commenting on the exceptional standard on display and openly admitting they would not want to face our juniors in a match.

Competition Summary

The standard across all games was superb, with every junior giving their absolute best. Close ends, confident decision‑making, and impressive composure were evident throughout — particularly from those who had never bowled on the green before.

Sportsmanship & Conduct

One of the standout features of the day was the impeccable behaviour of all participants. Their manners, respect for officials, and use of proper etiquette — “measures please”, “thank you” — made a real impression. It reflects brilliantly on them, their parents, and the future of our sport.

Thanks & Acknowledgements

A huge thank you to Hamstead Club for providing excellent facilities, helping create a welcoming and enjoyable environment for players and families alike.

A special thank you also goes to Phil Ellett, whose support over the past couple of weeks has taken a great deal of pressure off. Thank you, everyone, Clare Wallace, Junior County Link Officer.

Parent & Supporter Feedback

The atmosphere around the green was matched by the positivity from parents and supporters:

  • Jack Wall “had a great time and a fantastic experience.”
  • Leo’s family expressed their thanks for the warm welcome and praised the “amazing talent on show.”
  • Theo went home “enthusiastic and buzzing” after a brilliant day.
  • Many commented on the quality of bowling and the enjoyment of watching such promising young players.

Final Thoughts

  • Boys Only Consolation Finalists
  • Tom Mijof-Clark & Leo Groves

This was a day that highlighted everything good about junior bowls — skill, attitude, camaraderie, and potential. The investment in these young players is clearly paying off, and the future of our county squad looks very bright.
