Warwick & Worcester secured top spot in Group 4 and a place in the National Semi-Finals with an impressive performance against Merseyside, finishing the day with a commanding 471–382 aggregate victory, an overall advantage of 89 chalks across the two venues. [bowlsresults.co.uk]
While the individual game score finished 18–6 in Warwick & Worcester's favour, it was the county's dominance on aggregate that ultimately underlined their superiority, as they outscored Merseyside at both venues to complete an unbeaten group campaign.
Windle No.1: Visitors Gain Early Advantage
At Windle No.1 in St Helens, Merseyside's winners were Stephen Glover, Josh Bunting and Steve Evans, but Warwick & Worcester claimed the remaining nine games through James Seville, Ben Lynch, Anthony Bracken, Callum Mitchell, Jason Galvin, Neil Harrell, Ashley Bracken, Michael Lynch and Scott Follis.
The venue aggregate finished 237–202 in favour of Warwick & Worcester, giving the visitors a valuable 35-chalk advantage. Particularly important were the tight victories recorded by Callum Mitchell and Jason Galvin, both winning 21–19, while Ashley Bracken edged perhaps the closest contest of the day, defeating Mark Furber 21–20.
King George V: Home Side Extend Their Lead
At the King George V, Warwick & Worcester produced another excellent display to complete the double.
Victories from Darren Round, Elliot McGuinness, Jon Palmer, Ross Dunkley, Nathan Caines, Ryan Hocknull, Greg Smith, Phil Clinton and Andrew Saunders ensured another strong return for the hosts. Merseyside's points came courtesy of Phil Lee, Jamie Isaac and Mike Riley.
A number of performances helped Warwick & Worcester pull away on aggregate, including 21–10 wins for Darren Round, Ross Dunkley, Nathan Caines and Greg Smith, while Elliot McGuinness recorded a notable 21–11 success.
The Birmingham venue concluded 234–180 in Warwick & Worcester's favour, extending the overall margin to +89.
