First Junior Meet-up

Darren Andrews • 11 May 2026

Held @ British Oak

The WWCBA has committed to arranging on the 2nd Sunday of the month, reserved specifically for Junior Events, either at the national or regional Level.

On Sunday, 10 May, despite many players already being involved in local or club events, an encouraging entry of 13 juniors attended. The field consisted of players of varying ages and experience, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for junior bowling within the county.

The free-to-enter event was held on a well-presented green at British Oak Bowling Club. To provide support and help build the confidence of newer players, matches were organised into pairs — with one triple — by Clare Wallace, WWCBA Junior Link Officer. The format encouraged experienced and developing players to compete together in an enjoyable and supportive environment.

The event was well supported by parents and guardians, together with Deryck Cather and Phil Ellett representing WWCBA. While some players understandably began the day nervously, the atmosphere quickly developed into one of camaraderie, teamwork, and enjoyment.

Round-robin games were played up to 11, producing several close and competitive contests throughout the afternoon. Evan and George emerged as the overall champions on the day, receiving donated prize money for their achievement.

The event concluded with a traditional “spider”, with several parents also joining in the fun. With Lincoln proving victorious, winning an additional donated prize.

The next event in the Second Sunday Juniors Programme will take place on Sunday 14 June, when WWCBA will send teams of six players to Grange Sports and Social Club, Warrington.

There is still time for clubs, parents, and guardians to express an interest in our junior events and development programme. We warmly welcome players of all ages and abilities, with the emphasis firmly placed on enjoyment, participation, confidence building, and the continued development of junior bowling within WWCBA.

Anyone wishing to become involved or seeking further information regarding upcoming junior events is encouraged to make contact as soon as possible.
